Jeez you guys, i passed 10,000 followers on this dang ol’ Tumblr this morning! I haven’t been Tumbling that long and i’m just happy people are into what i do (or are following me out of spite, fueled by an undying rage, ‘cause that’s cool too). I shall do my best not to disappoint.
(I don’t mean this to be braggy, i really don’t, i just genuinely appreciate the interest and this is faster than writing 10,000 thank yous)
And just thank you all for being super nice. In all this time i’ve never gotten a mean note or message and i’ve gotten so many nice ones. If you ever wrote me and i never responded i promise i read it and i’m sorry i was too big a jerk that day to reply.
You all are the best :)
Q:The orange you used in that last comic was scrumptious. What kind of pen is that? I've never seen it before.
It’s a fantastic orange :)
It’s a waterbrush filled with a (semi-opaque) orange ink that i found in a Japanese bookstore/art supply shop here in L.A. I have no idea what the label says, what brand it is, or even if i’m using it properly*? But i love it.
Here’s what the bottle looks like, if you want to try and track it down! Using it in the waterbrush was kind of an experiment but it works pretty well.
[EDIT] It’s Shu-eki “red” ink! This shop actually has it available online (although possibly not at the moment by the looks of their front page?). Many thanks to Tumblr users Toshi and gingercatsneeze for the translation help… and to Nytrinhia for suggesting checking the ISBN hahaha wow i genuinely hadn’t thought to do that :)
If there are any Japanese speakers/readers out there who can translate the label or are familiar with the brand i would welcome the information :)
Mystical Croissant-Head (so named by Ben Hatke over on the twitters), started out as a meeting doodle… as so many of us do.
Been thinking alot about a bigger story for MyCH & Friend. Haven’t found one that feels quite right for them yet, so i’m just having fun drawing them a bunch in the meantime.
In case you missed it, last week they announced a new writer/artist team for Batgirl, as well as a new costume design by the talented Babs Tarr (also the new artist for the title).
[EDIT] Small correction; the new costume is in fact a collaboration between Babs Tarr AND writer Cameron Stewart (who is also an awesome artist). Credit where credit is due to a great design team!
I’m not a big DC reader generally, but that costume was just too cool not to draw, so last week i hopped on the bandwagon along with the rest of the internet!
Proto-Negora: Post 2 of 2!
It was awesome seeing all the custom pieces, especially the handful done by Konatsu herself. Vinyl Pulse did a nice write-up of the show with much better photos of all the pieces, you can read it here!
For the show i scrounged up a chunk of asphalt to use as a base for Proto-Negora. She seems at home up there :)
